Welcome to Rural Haunts
Searching out current as well as historical accounts passed down through the generations
Welcome to Rural Haunts, where we delve into the intriguing intersection of the supernatural and history in the heart of small-town Colorado. Having been captivated by both realms since childhood, I embarked on a journey to unearth the hidden tales, blending current and historical accounts passed down through generations.

Upon my arrival in this quaint Colorado town twenty-eight years ago, I was surprised to discover the limited accessibility of local history. Despite a remarkable museum and an exceptional retired history professor, the town did not fully embrace its Wild West past. Motivated by this, I set out to preserve stories at risk of fading into obscurity.
As an English major with dreams of becoming a prolific writer, life led me down a different path. Jobs, careers, and raising a family became my priorities. Now, with my children grown and independent, I find it crucial to document oral traditions before they vanish.
Imprints of History's Past in Rural Colorado
From the imprints of the Ute Tribe to the tales of Gunslingers, Miners, Red Light Districts, and even a swift water rescue of Bob Hope, the town's history is a treasure trove waiting to be explored. Characters like "Irish" Annie Blanchard and Wyatt Earp add a touch of the supernatural to this mountain town's narrative.
This website, soon to be accompanied by a book and podcast, aims not only to recount supernatural stories but also to provide insights and explanations for the eerie occurrences that linger in the night.
Why the Supernatural?
As an English major, I was drawn to stories that sent shivers down my spine. While my academic focus was on Dickens, my personal interests leaned toward Bram Stoker, Mary Shelley, and Oscar Wilde. Camping adventures with my family exposed me to Native American lore, and encounters with haunted places ignited a fascination for the supernatural. Podcasts further revealed the global thread connecting these stories, inspiring me to preserve the rich tapestry of history and tales.
